Pakhmutova Concerto (1978)

Does anyone know where I can buy the 1978 edition of this Concerto? I already own the 1955 edition. I need the trumpet and piano parts.

Pakhmutova with piano

I think this is what you want. You can call them to make sure it was published the year you are requesting.

Nice piece! I played it for one of my juries, while I was at Eastman. I also performed it with a wind ensemble, and it was a very good transcription of the orchestral version.

Incidentally, Lou Soloff performed it on his Concerto Program for his Performer's Certificate from Eastman... which I believe would have been with the Eastman Philharmonia Orchestra.

Best always,
Bruce

Manny Laureano has a spectacular aura about
Not to be a rebel or anything...

Why is this in the Mouthpieces section?

LOL. I guess the original poster felt it should go under "other".

Not a rebel, Manny? You are a trumpet player aren't you?

Maybe a moderator could move it?

Best always,
Bruce

Pahkmutova Concerto

I fell in love with this piece many many yearsago. I found a Martin Berenboim flyer on the floor of our music building and in it he highly recommended it as a great piece of trumpet literature. As I had never heard of it, I searched it out and eventually did it on my graduate school recital. I like the rhythmic and lyrical elements very much and it has a "feel" to it that is quite different from many of the standard classical literature selections.

Interesting person (Alexandra) to learn about also.....

Does anyone know of different recording of the Pakmatova? And where i might be able to find it? I have the cd with Bibi Black playing this piece, it was the only recording I could find and I dont want to limit myself to hearing just one interpretation of it. Any thoughts...?

Pahkmutova Recording

I have an older one by Popov. It was on a CD of russian classics including the Gliere Concerto for Soprano (which has been adapted for trumpet).

It is not great sound (sonically) but it was a good performance. Somewhat different from the Bibi Black rendition.
