| Piccolo Mouthpiece Greetings. I recently purchased a chinese-made Piccolo trumpet to mess around with and I was wondering what size Schilke mouthpiece would be adequate fro pic playing. I currently play a Schilke 15B on Bb, Schilke 14F on Flugel, and 15 on C. I realize the quality of the piccolo can be called to question, but I ws just looking for something to learn on, as I've never played much pic. Thanks! Regards, heck |

The "A" (14A4A for instance) had some serious intonation issues in the high register (almost a half step sharp on the high concert "D"). I would start with what you have. Most important thing to remember is that the picc is not designed to have the same big fat sound as your Bb or C. Just take it easy, let the sound be smaller and sneak up to the high notes. If your approach is everything but brutal, the rewards are relatively quick in coming! |

![]() | Re: Piccolo Mouthpiece It is quite common to use a smaller diameter mouthpiece on piccolo, so perhaps an 11B or 12B might give you the sound, intonation and endurance you would like. |
