Re: Plastic Mouthpieces?

generaly they work well there is a girl in our band that plays on one all year round and gets a wonderful tone out of it. I personaly only use one during the cold weather of marching season but i think it just depends on the player as to whether or not your comfortable with it all the time.

Re: Plastic Mouthpieces?

i dont get it? aside from the temperature thing, why play these? Doesn't Bobby Shew have his own mouthpiece line?

Confused,

Matt

Re: Plastic Mouthpieces?

I thought Thomas lubitz in Germany made Bobby a custom Acrylic glass mouthpiece (looking a LOT like the Kelly).

I've been using a Kelly with a MegaSleeve until my Curry lexan rimmed pieces arrive. I'm switching over due to a recent diagnosis of having allergic reactions to silver and gold mouthpieces.

Re: Plastic Mouthpieces?

Lubitz works for Yamaha in Europe and works with Yamaha clients. And it's a design of his Yamaha pieces.

Re: Plastic Mouthpieces?

I'm a big proponent of the Kelly plastic mouthpieces. The 7C in particular... very under rated.

The only way to know is to have IDENTICAL mouthpieces of plastic and brass played side by side. Anything else is conjecture. When I say identical I mean identical, not just a cup that is close. I mean the outside, the rim, throat size, backbore... everything has to be the same. Then, listen from about 50 feet away not in a 6x8 practice room.

I think the brass mouthpiece would blow the plastic mouthpiece away in just one note but until someone comes up with that test, it's all conjecture.
