Runyon Trumpet MP lip saver?

Hi, anyone know of or has used this product. I see it at WWBW for $5.95, looks like a rubber cover over the rim. No explanation of the product there.
Thanks!

Found an ad copy at 1 stop clarinet and sax shop. "lip saver for trumpet mouthpieces is designed for player's comfort and convenience. While playing in cold weather, the player's lips are insulated from the cold instrument. Additionally, a softer embouchure allows playing for longer periods."

Wonder if it would help in indoor regular playing? $4.99 from this seller.

Re: Runyon Trumpet MP lip saver?

The basic idea is that it prevents your lips freezing to the mouthpiece in extremely cold playing conditions (which really sucks!), like outdoors at the Winter Olympics. I don't know if it really promotes endurance or not, but I've always steered clear of rubber products that make that claim.

Re: Runyon Trumpet MP lip saver?

My trumpet mouthpiece does not have a lip to save.....................

If you are playing outdoors enough, get a plastic rimmed mouthpiece. Schilke makes them in delrin and I used them when I was with the Army Band in Stuttgart, Germany. It played well and I never had problems.

I had a Schilke 18 with a delrin rim. I bought it from Giardinelli back then. I just checked the Schilke mouthpiece catalog and didn't see it listed.
Curry makes them: Curry Precision Mouthpieces
Klier makes them: JOSEF KLIER KG Musikinstrumente - Mundstückbau
Kelly does too: Kelly(TM) Mouthpieces - Bringing Color to Music!®

I am sure there are more companies, but this should get you started!

Good luck.
