Schilke 14F

I acquired a Schilke 14F with a used horn and I have been searching for information regarding it and I have come up with nothing. Was this a model they discontinued or is it a custom model? It is not one of the mouthpiece models on the Schilke site, and I was curious to see if anyone on here knew anything regarding the background/origin of this piece. Thanks!

Re: Schilke 14F

Maybe a Flugelhorn mouthpiece? (Check page 22 of the Schilke PDF Mouthpiece Catalogue.)

I have a Schilke 14F which is indeed a flugelhorn piece. Does it have a trumpet shank?

Re: Schilke 14F

I emailed Schilke earlier this evening, I'll post my findings from them as soon as they reply. Yes mine is indeed a flugel piece with a V-cup and flugel-length shank.

I checked the Schilke PDF catalogue and the only stock models that are currently available are the following:

6F4, 13F4, 14F4, 15F, 16F4, 17F, 18F, 20F

Page 17 of my old Schilke mouthpiece handbook says on page 17:
"Fluegelhorn Mouthpieces...
These mouthpieces can be made up in any of our standard rims...
Fluegelhorn mouthpiece receivers differ greatly as to dimensions of mouthpieces stem required. Therefore, FLUEGELHORN MOUTHPIECES MUST BE CUSTOM-BUILT TO ORDER."
[emphasis in original]

That leads me to believe that there is no such thing as a Schilke stock flugel mouthpiece.
Which is why your mouthpiece is not mentioned in any listing of stock Schilke mouthpieces.
Your Schilke flugel mouthpiece by definition must be a custom one.

Re: Schilke 14F

Schilke emailed me back with my answer:

"Hi John,

Thank you for your inquiry. This appears to be a special custom mouthpiece using the rim of our model 14 trumpet with a 'F' flugelhorn cup and appropriate shank to properly fit the Olds flugelhorn. This has never been a production piece. The rim contour of the 14 is rounder than the the #4 rim found on our present day 14F4 model."

It appears it is in fact a custom mouthpiece. Thanks for all the responses.
