Kanstul Mouthpiece Comparator the Schilke 15C4 is deeper than the Bach 3C. The Schilke 15B is the same depth as a Bach 3C, but the Schilke 15B has the same rim shape as the Bach 3C. The Schilke 15A4 is shallower than the Bach 3C and has a flatter rim. But be sure to get the Schilke 15A4 which has the standard backbore rather than the Schilke 15A4A which has the small, tight backbore if you want approximately the same openness as the Bach 3C. | Forte User | Re: schilke m3 or 15c4 I would suggest also that you look at Denis Wick mouthpieces - they have flatter rimes and I believe that their C cups are slightly shallower than Bach's. The catch is that the smallest size with a C cup is 16.50mm. The nearest to your 3C is probably the no letter DW5 (slightly smaller roughly equivalent to Schilke 13 size). I never played a DW 5 so I cannot comment.

| Forte User | Re: schilke m3 or 15c4 I believe also that Schilke 15 size is slightly larger than the Bach 3C...but this is all quite relative, considering the consistency of VB mouthpieces...

![]() | Re: schilke m3 or 15c4 back to the 15c4. I played a 14a4a and could not play that mp at all after about 15 min. |

![]() | Re: schilke m3 or 15c4 I play the Schilke Symphony Series M2 in addition to the Bach 3C. It has an identical rim to the Bach but a slightly deeper cup giving a warmer tone. I found the Schilke easy to adapt to and to switch from one to the other. I'm not exactly sure what the difference is in the M3? |

The 15A4 has more cup room and a larger backbore. I'm curious. Why did you say that you want a mouthpiece which is slightly shallower than a Bach 3C, then you insist that a Schilke 15C4 is closer to what you want even though it is deeper than a Bach 3C? Dean | |

![]() | Re: schilke m3 or 15c4 I play a 3C myself. I tried a Schilke 15B and it felt much larger and the upper register was much more difficult. A 15C4 would be even worse since it is deeper. Unfortunately, Schilke B cups are not available with the "4" flat rim unless you want to pay the high price for a custom order.
