| Mezzo Forte User | Searching for a new Piccolo Mouthpiece Guys, I am thinking of getting a new piccolo mouthpiece (bigger). I know exactly what I should look for, but not sure where....so, if you have any sugestion, please do! I need a MP with a rim size somewhere near to my MP that I use with the B flat/C trumpet which is 1 1/2C Vincent Bach. It can get as small as 3 C but not below. Currently I play with the Schilke 11AX but the switching from the bigger 1 1/2 C to Schilke sometimes is a problem. I like the Schilke rim shape but the size seems to be a bit too small for me.... To sum up I need a MP with a tim size somewhere between 1 1/2C and 3 C, Rim shape similar to the Schilke Pic MP 11AX with a cornet shank. I plan to purchase soon a Piccolo which will be either scherzer or spada (the spada is schilke like pic, with a slightly larger backbore and bigger bell which gives a free blowing feel and much broader sound than the schlke). Any suggestions? |

| Re: Searching for a new Piccolo Mouthpiece Check out Curry Mouthpieces. I use a 5XS for my picc and it works great. My regular mouthpiece is a Curry 5BC. |

| Mezzo Forte User | Re: Searching for a new Piccolo Mouthpiece Seems that the Schilke 11AX was designed to play on schilke pic. Probably that is the reason why it did not work as well as I wished on other trumpets (bigger bell and larger backbore for spada or different shaped bell for rotaries like scherzer). I found another one on their site which is 14A4x which may be an answer. I thought of warburton and I consider seriously this option. Are all cups available with cornet schanks? I did not find bach 1 1/2C to their chart. My aproach is actually to get as close as possibble to my Bflat moutpiece rim size but slightly shallower. Any one playing GR? I think of looking there too |

![]() | Re: Searching for a new Piccolo Mouthpiece Warburton 3's are about the same as a 1 1/2 and yes, they do make cornet backbores for piccs. The Curry Z cups, however, work great on piccs! |

![]() | Re: Searching for a new Piccolo Mouthpiece The S cup is more C shaped, and the SV more of a V cup. The S should allow for more "Taah" in the articulation, the SV more "Daah" and a little freeer airflow. I liked the sound better on the S (but nearly not as well as Curry's Z with his Monstersleeve), but used trumpet shanks. Warburton should be able to make some good suggestions for a backbore on the cornet shank. Generally, wide open backbores are the conventional reccomendations. Kanstul's website has some nifty tools for looking at cup shapes. Check them out! |

| Re: Searching for a new Piccolo Mouthpiece Check out the GR picc mouthpieces as well. Wide range of sizes, rims, cups, backbores, etc. to tailor to your horn. Good luck. |
