| Shulman system Howdy folks, I'd like to get feedback from anyone who has used the Shulman system. What do you think of it? What did it do for you? etc, etc. The Shulman system is meant to support the trumpet during practice thereby reducing body tension and lip pressure and improve body alignment with the horn. I found it advertised on Chase Sanborn's site. Thanks, Dave Taylor |

![]() | Re: Shulman system Yes, I own a Shulman System. It does everything Matt says it does. I especially like the tension it takes off my shoulders and left arm. I can play long tones longer. The horn is steady up to the last push of air. It allows me to concentrate on what is working in the mouth piece and air support. If you set it up right it helps with embouchure development in regulating the pressure, or lack of, on the mouth piece. Once you get it set up with your body it is comfortable and you'll wonder why you didn't buy one sooner. Jim King |

| Re: Shulman system I had been trying to make some adjustments with my mouthpiece position and embouchure. It was very difficult not to slip back in to the old position. Why? That would be a whole new thread. Suffice it to say that the Shulman system is what helped me turn the trick. Once I got it set, I could "force" myself into the position that I wanted to be in. Now, I use it a few days a week during practice for a checkup. At first glance, it is easy to be put off by the price. It was worth it for me because it helped me through a change. It's a legit piece of training equipment as far as I'm concerned. pat |

| Pianissimo User | Re: Shulman system I love the Shulman System, Apart from the benifits already described it makes it impossible to collapse your chest (which I have a tendency to do) so that the support is always there. A very worthwhile product in a sea of snake oil, definately not a gimmick. |

| Re: Shulman system Ditto on the Shulman system device. Sax players think nothing about playing their horn with a strap around their neck . . . trumpet players would be equally well-served to use one of these things ALL THE TIME! Alas, we are an egotistical and proud bunch though, and prefer to hold it out "like a man." Truthfully, if everyone started out with these things, folks wouldn't be using all that counterproductive body tension and arm pressure . . . and the mass group of world-wide trumpet players would be playing at a much higher level . . . for it forces people to play correctly. | Re: Shulman system I bought one because I was having severe shoulder pain while playing. I ended up having rotator cuff surgery. The system really helped me to keep practicing through that ordeal. I probably would not have been able to play for three weeks if I did not have one. I know this is not the intended use for it, but it really helped. Shoulder aside, I love using it. My sound is much more open with it. The best part is that it blends in with a tux, so I do not have to answer so many questions about it. |
