Snake with orange balls Cross-post from brass-forum.co.uk so apologies if you've already read it there. -------------------------------------------------------------- This is a slightly embarassing question and I really should know better. I need to get a bore cleaning 'snake' for my Strad and someone's recemmended one to me that 'looks like it has orange balls at the ends rather than brushes'. Anyone know what he's talking about? And does it really matter what type of snake I get? Told you it was a bit embarassing. Rich.

I think this set is the style that is being recommended to you. http://www.padsaver.com/BrassPage.html#

| Fortissimo User | I think what they are referring to is the REKA set. I got one of these when Leigh sent my Eclipse. They are required because of the lack of a tuning slide on the leadpipe which makes use of a regular "snake" impossible. With the Eclipse design you have to feed the snake in via the leadpipe opening in the 3rd valve casing. Anyway... here's a link. http://www.music123.com/REKA-Cleanin...t-i99176.music This system is pretty good but you do have to take care that you keep the foam balls relatively clean or they will build up a lot of black "gunge"...oil etc. and start to deteriorate. |

So how else would I get people to actually read a post about cleaning brushes. Besides, that title was a gift given the subject! Ed - you were right. I knew I'd seen one somewhere, I now remember it was at Eclipse, except I think Leigh's are special extra-long ones (!). Already ordered one. Everyone please forgive this thread. Has to be one of the most dull ever. Probably about time it stopped. Rich.

Another nice alternative device is the H.W. Brass Saver! There are no metalic parts on it at all, so nothinng can scratch you horn. http://www.padsaver.com/BrassPage.html# This gagget REALLY works great!

I'll also cast a vote for the Brasssaver. It's wonderful for the slides, leadpipe and valve casings, with no fear of scratching the interior. Dave
