Re: Trumpet Microphone

The Shure can be considered an industry standard. A real workhorse, practically indestructable. You will find these things on stage EVERYWHERE. It is a dynamic microphone so it doesn't need a battery or mix board with phantom power.
For recording a condenser microphone is better. Beyerdynamic MC530 for EUR 95 or Opus53 for EUR 79 would be two good choices.

Re: Trumpet Microphone

The SM57 is the standard mic. In that price range, that is what you want. If you want a bigger smoother sound, there are lots of affordable Ribbon mics out there.

CAD Trion 7000, Nady Ribbon, Cascade Ribbon, Apex Ribbon. Try googling those. They are very cheap still.

I'm a recording engineer and that is what I most commonly use unless I want a brighter tone for soft playing. Then I use a $5,000 Tube mic.

Here is a clip of a Loud bright lead player through the Apex Ribbon:

Re: Trumpet Microphone

Get an ADK S-7 mic (relatively new product). It is specifically "voiced" for trumpet, sounds FANTASTIC and can take high volume levels (SPL). I have one and love it....it is right up there with my other much more expensive mics...like my Telefunken RFT AK-47 ($1,600). The ADK is below $300....

Re: Trumpet Microphone

The 57 is a tank mic and perfect for your needs. I have even tried some of the "chinese" 57 clones and they are great as well. I've had a 57 for 10 years and it's perfect for club gigs, throwing around, and withstanding a ton of wear! Mine still looks and sounds like new.

Cheers,
T
