![]() | unwanted lips vibration noise I would like to find an explanation for a situation that is happening to me: I am having kind of lips vibration noise projected in my sound while playing sustained tones. Does anybody knows what is the cause for this and how to solve it? |

![]() | Re: unwanted lips vibration noise Maybe you are overdoing it a bit. Take two days off. It sounds like you are doing too much work with your chops and not giving enough air support. If you can hear two vibration noises and there is not a resonation from your vocal chords, chances are that you are producing two vibrations, Some players who use too much pressure or not enough wind support can suffer from this. By having some time off ie 48hours you allow everything to settle, If you are pushing yourself in your playing, there may be some embrouchure swelling that can cause a second vibration that may be eleviated with some rest time. Endurance athletes have a rest day. Having time off can take the stress out of the situation which can add to the problem. Go cycling, walk in the park, rent a yoga DVD. It may also help to do some to do some facial gymnastics without buzzing. Make pronounced movements with your face eg Make the 'mmmm' sound with your embrouchure forward and then a pronounced smile alternating to loosen and tone muscles away from the point of contact of your mouthpiece. Sounds weird but it can solve overstrained embrouchure problems. Hope this helps. |

this is kind of like someone bringing their car to the shop and saying the motor is making a funny sound, or going to the doctor and saying "my sister has this itch"........ Additional noises CAN come from the lips or vocal chords. They can be a sign of being worn out, or more often bad practice habits. Advice like "practice more" is most useful AFTER you know what is wrong, otherwise you are just strengthening bad habits. What do these noises sound like? Are they related in pitch to the tones that you are playing? Do they just come and go or are they always present? Are they dependent on how high or low that you are playing? Check and see if you are singing while playing. This is VERY common and is a sign of bad, unrelaxed breathing habits. Give us some more info and maybe we can zero in on your problem. If you have a teacher, what do they say?

![]() | Re: unwanted lips vibration noise I had this problem when I switched to the prana mouthpieces. The answer was to practice exercises quietly for a couple of weeks and concentrate on the quality of the sound. This solved the problem. Generally its more of a problem with larger mouthpieces as there is more room for things to vibrate.

![]() | Re: unwanted lips vibration noise Hi there: I want to thank you all of you for your reply to my thread on the above title. Well, dealing with the situation I discovered that overpractice was mainly the reason for the double vibration. I took a couple of days off and restarted fresh with exercises concentrating on air support and soft long tones for reassuring my embouchure. I will be more concious about over practice. Anyway, thank you and it is good to know that a couple of forum members hit it right. Specially ozboy and gordon H. regards Last edited by trumpetpr; 01-03-2008 at 12:29 PM. Reason: spelling |
