Valve Oil

Ok, So I have a Bach Strad, and ever since I started playing I just kinda used whatever valve oil was avaliable and convineant. At this point I'm using Blue Juice and it's really starting to bother me. I have to oil my valves about once every 2-3 days.

Any suggestions on a good kind of oil?

Re: Valve Oil

I personally use Al-Cass Fast and never had a problem with it. I've also heard good things about Zaja Blue and Ultra Pure Oils on here as well. If you do decide to change it might be a good idea to clean and wipe down your valves before using the new oil to get all the old stuff off

Re: Valve Oil

I have recently switched over to "Bell's Super Lube" and have been quite happy with the results. Past experiences with "Pro- Oil Formula 141- A7: Hybrid" were positive as well. Both oils are compatible with close tolerance valves.

Re: Valve Oil

I'm using ultra-pure until it runs out. It lasts longer but my valves don't move as fast. I used blue juice before that and it worked well for me. I only tried the Ultra-Pure on an impulse. I have a friend who cannot use blue juice because it reacts negatively with his saliva. This may be your problem? He uses 5 star which is a hybrid oil, part synthetic and part petroleum based. I tried it the other night and like it better than Ultra-pure I may go that route next or go back to blue juice.

Re: Valve Oil

What's wrong with oiling the valves every 2, 3 days? Many people oil valves every day or ever time they sit down for a practice/performance. Some lucky ones get to oil every half hour or so! (you know who you are... come on, admit it! $79.95 plus shipping?)

Having said that...any of the lubricants that use teflon (PTFE) are awfully good; Zaja Blue is my choice.

That could be. It just bothers me how much slower my valves get in such a short period of time. I was thinking of maybe trying out some synthetic oil, but I have no idea which ones.

Any input?

Re: Valve Oil

I have a bach strad and I use to use blue juice, I had to oil my valves very often, so I started using Zaja oil instead, maybe try that?
Maybe blue juice and stads don't get along, I'm probably wrong though ......try Zaja I think it is really good.
If you get Zaja get the kind WITHOUT a scent, I got the strawberry, and I wish I didn't. The only thing that bothers me about the valve oil is I smell strawberry everytime I play my trumpet, It gives me a headache.

Take a look at the Hetman's brand valve oil. They come in different strengths so that you can move to one that works with your acidity level.
