Do you experience any pain/bruises/cuts? If not, then I wouldn't worry too much. As for reducing pressure (we can never get rid of it completely) ong tones are wonderful! Play a long tone, and gradually reduce pressure until it starts to sound "bad." Then make it sound "better." Usually this involves moving the lips slightly forward, so that the pressure comes from pressing our lips into the mouthpiece, rather than pressing the mouthpiece into our lips. Have fun!

![]() | Re: white/red lip ring Well, until you get used to the upper register, you usually get this ring. But at my high school, we wear our rings with pride as we march off the field. It shows how hard we played. But this is probably just me. |

| Pianissimo User | Re: white/red lip ring You will grow into the register as you play it more often; don't worry too much about it. When I notice I'm using too much pressure, I just close my eyes and stop thinking of anything for five seconds. I usually get completely relaxed, and focused on what needs to be done.

![]() | Re: white/red lip ring Perhaps this may be of interest. Trumpet players as well as many similar brasswind players tend to use the upper lip and that is enough to get by. But if you also play a reed instrument just a bit your lower lip will acquire more abilities and enable more options in playing on trumpet. Two lips, well trained, seem to beat a player who relies on upper lip exclusively in to9ne production/ |
