Wolfpak 2.5 Case with Monette

Hi there,

Just wondering if there are any TMers that have had success with using the Wolfpak 2.5 case with their Monette horns. Someone told me that Monette's once came with Wolfpak cases. Not sure if this is true. Would a Monette XLT fit in a 2.5 case? They look fairly sturdy and protective. Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Re: Wolfpak 2.5 Case with Monette

I had a Chicago C trumpet that I bought several years ago. At the time, I was still using the Wolfpak 2.5 case. I tried putting the horn in it, and it was VERY snug. With Monette brass being as soft as it is, I decided not to use it. Luckily, Thompson's music had a used Monette double case being sold for $155 (an absolute STEAL). I ended up with a Marcus Bonna triple that worked GREAT!

Later, I sold the Chicago C back to its original owner, and bought a 2000LT C. This trumpet was a bit shorter, so I'm sure it would have fit. I'm not sure about the XLT, but it may be a bit too long. If you want a case like this, get a Marcus Bonna triple instead!

Re: Wolfpak 2.5 Case with Monette

Lou's right. If you want a non-Monette case for your Monette, go with a Marcus Bona. I had a few bad experiences with the Wolfpak 2.5 before I started playing Monettes, so I don't think I would trust them. I know that Monette cases can be a pain (and also really expensive), so if you're looking for something else, I'd really suggest looking for an MB case.

Re: Wolfpak 2.5 Case with Monette

Back when Monettes were made in Chicago and Wolfpak was owned by Kevin Woefel (sp), I believe there was an association with the two companies. I started to receive catalogs from Wolfpak since I was on Monette's mailing list. The early models were very well made.

Since then, Wolfpak was sold and the quality declined. I have read complaints about the zippers and the plastic hardware used for the straps. Don't buy one without first inspecting it yourself.

PS. All the MB cases I've seen were very well made.

Re: Wolfpak 2.5 Case with Monette

When I got my C997, the two STC3 mouthpieces I got came with a complimentary Rocky Mountain Caseworks double mouthpiece case, which was the company Kevin Woefel started after selling Wolfpak.
