Wood mutes

Does anyone have an opinion on wood mutes?

I'm thinking about investing some money in upgrading my mute collection. I've never tried a wood mute. Are they worth the money?

Re: Wood mutes

If you are playing a solo, and the sound is what you think fits, go for it!
If you are in a section and can get the rest to invest because they also believe in that sound, go for it. Wood mutes just sound different than metal mutes. I don't have anything in my repertory where I have felt wood is it!

Re: Wood mutes

like wood mutes teste few and you will see//There is the famous AMR wooden straight mute (I believe that Marsalis is using one on the Enescu's Legend from the On the 20th century ...CD) and there is also those fibre mutes which are also great like Sotto voce, Trumcor lyrical. I believe that denis wick offers a wooden mute as well but have never played or heard one. I was told that my Trumcore Clasical mute (fibre adjustable cup) sounds like a flute....
