Any Herb Alpert Fans???

I know all his hits...and love his style...but I have a question I went to the thrift store yesterday and bought an album... Herb Alperts Ninth...I cannot play it (no turntable) but a friend of mine at work will record it onto cd for me, does a really great job. I do not recognise any of the song titles except for ...With A Little Help From My Friends....is that the Joe Cocker song??? I only spent a buck and the album is in great shape. HAve any of you heard this album and how is it. : Oh yhea Herb Alperts birthday is next month born... 3/31/1935

Well, if I could play like Wynton (Marsalis), I wouldn't play like Wynton.

It should be fairly easy to find out (or at least get a strong idea).... what is the date of the recording? Does it predate Joe Cocker's recording? Or is it most likely a "cover"?

With a Little Help was a Beatles tune before the definitive Cocker version.

Herb Alpert is the reason I took up trumpet 38 years ago.
I love his tone and style.

Oh Yeah I love Herb Alpert and the TJB...

So does Ms. Alex our Georgia peach as she's being called.

I agree, his tone and style were/are inspiring.

Here's info on the album;
http://www.tijuanabrass.com/

Looks like your album was released in 1967 so I'd have to say since I believe that pre-dates the Joe Cocker version and me for that matter, this has to be a take off of the Beatles...

My .02

Best wishes,
John

Time to fire up some Herb I just went out and bought the definative hits a few weeks ago. Time to revisit....

I have an original 45 record hanging on my wall of Herb's "Rise". It was his big mainstream hit in the early 80's. Another song I liked from that time was ironically called "1980". We even played a marching band version of it at our high school.

Oh yeah, John - TJB rules! So go ahead and fire up some Herb. (snicker, snicker)

Solar Bell has a spectacular aura about
I'm old enough to have grown up with the TJB.

Remember the Baja Marimba Band also.

It was a good time for school trumpet players with his popularity.

When RISE came out I thought it was so cool to hear Herb doing those things with reverb and echo. (stereo delay I think he used)

Yeah, I was a fan!

I see that ReWhipped will be released 3/6. With new solos played by Herb...first off I thought I had read somewhere that he does not play anymore....and also in the review the critics say the title trak was the theme song for the dating game??? I thought it was Spanish Flea. Can someone enlighten me. Nice album cover though..atleast they did not have to go thru alot of whipped cream like the orginal cover.
