![]() | Article Ideas As the editor of the Getzen Gazette, it's my job to come up with article ideas. Easier said than done. Anyway, I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for upcoming articles. Mainly any topics related to manufacturing of trumpets that would interest you. Any suggestions would be appreciated. ![]() ![]() | Re: Article Ideas I'd like to learn more about bells as well. The way they are made. 1 piece vs. 2 piece. Also the bead on the bell. How that is done and what it does to the sound. Another interesting thing might be something on mouthpiece gap. I have heard this area can have a big imact on articulation. |

Also, what about different grades of brass or different types of brass, such as red brass, gold brass, and other composites. Maybe a bit about red-rot. What it is, what causes it, how best to prevent it, what to do if you notice it. And, (without disclosing your manufacturing secrets, of course) a bit about valve construction and the different materials and their pros/cons. For the young pups, maybe something about how to select an instrument; the differences between student lines, intermediate lines and professional models. |

![]() | Re: Article Ideas Thanks a lot for the ideas. All good. I like the one piece vs. two piece bell construction. That could take up several pages. If you want to seem some of the bell construction go to the factory video section of our site. You can see a bell being spun there and we are always adding more clips. http://www.getzen.com/inside/videos/ As for the pistons construction idea, I have already addressed a big chunk of that in a past issue of the Gazette. I did an extensive test to show the advantage of nickel silver pistons over monel. Measurements showing hardness, tolerance, and wearing. If you haven't seen it already check out the article on our Gazette Blog. Go here http://www.getzen.com/gazette1/ and select the March 2006 issue. Scroll down the page and there you have it. Here's a sneak peak at the pictures from the article. Can you guess which pistons are ours? Brett Getzen ![]() ![]() |
