| Mezzo Forte User | Audiophiles/Techs... Sound folks, I need some help. I have a Minidisc player (Sony, MZN707 Type R) that I use to record myself and some concerts. I have a need to put that material on my computer. How do I do that? The program "openMG" does not seem to be able to transfer something to the computer that was recorded with a microphone. I have DL'd SonicStage and several others but they all seem not able to transfer something that has not previsouly been on a computer. (Yes, I made sure the copyright tab on the MD was in an off position.) When I do it the old school way: Take analog cables from MD headphone jack to computer mic input and record in realtime, there is a LOT of white noise, scratching, etc. Can anyone help? I appreciate it. Thank you. Tim P.S. The cheaper, the better... I am honestly living hand to mouth. (AKA, I'm POOR!) Last edited by Bear : 03-07-2008 at 11:31 AM. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Audiophiles/Techs... Bear, I don't know about the units sold elsewhere in the world, but the units in Germany had this feature blocked when using the USB ports. The offical explanation was "copyright issues". What does work just fine is using the optical digital output into a soundcard with an optical digital input. The copy happens in real time, but is at least a 100% digital copy. |

![]() | Re: Audiophiles/Techs... Rowuk- The last time I seriously looked into getting a MiniDisc player, I couldn't find one stateside that had an optical out, only an optical in. Now I use my slightly less portable by infinitely more usefull PowerBook G4 to record on location. -Jimi |

| Re: Audiophiles/Techs... I have a MD player/recorder I picked up cheep, that I had planned to use, but I never looked that close until now and your right, the optical jack is labeled "in". I always thought optical went both ways? I need an optical-capable data card for my computer too.Or sound card? Last edited by c.nelson : 03-07-2008 at 07:38 PM. |

| Mezzo Forte User | Re: Audiophiles/Techs... Ok, Thanks again Rowuk. I took a cable from headphone out on MD to mic in on PC and ran it realtime through Audacity and it worked fine. Still digital qualiy even though the realtime run was analog. Take care sir. Tim |

| Re: Audiophiles/Techs... Hi, I also had a Minidisc of the same generation but the 50X model. I got rid of it when I found that I coudn't transfer the digital audio from the minidisc to the PC, for "copyright reasons" (as Rowuk explained). At that time, Sony didn't care if your recording is something you own (copyright point of view) or not. Have you checked on Minidisc Community Forums (Powered by Invision Power Board) to see if there is a way to do it properly with your model ? I know that Sony changed his mind on the copyright issues on recent models but I don't know if the change can be applied to your model. Stéphane |
