The only shred of nobility I've seen on/in that thieves' market in years. By all means, honor the boycott!

Or do like me, stop buying 2 years ago and stop selling 8 months ago.

To say eButt has jumped the shark is putting it mildly.

Re: boycott ebay

This is a recurring theme on this site now, if you don't like eBay don't use it. I stopped using it a while back as well. I stopped using because I usually found a better deal by looking around.

I don't like import cars so... I bought a Chevy. Know what I'm saying y'all.

Everyone tries to do a daily gas boycott up here once in a while, it never works. This won't either.

Re: boycott ebay

Exactly. I don't like it. I find better deals, MUCH better, locally.

Ebay's fees are close to 50% for small items now. Sellers can't leave anything but positive feedback. Buyers secretly rate you, and if one buyer feels like being nasty they rate you badly and your items don't come up in searches. It's become untenable to sell, or even to buy, there.

So it's just dying out anyway.

OK here it is, the secret Ebay discussion board, where the new stuff is discussed, read this and shudder....

eBay Chat: Discuss eBay's Newest Features

You can keep track of the latest happenings there and if you have an Ebay account, log in and talk too.

Re: boycott ebay

While it is unfortunate that eBay has turned out the way it has, so what? Nobody forces anybody to do business there, the dangers are adequately documented. Like anything else in life, if YOU do the research, YOU do not have to pay to be spoon fed with whatever the other party decides to feed you.

Re: boycott ebay

A few years ago I was the high bid on an Exakta 35MM single lens reflex camera which was rated by the seller as being in "as new condition". I sent a postal money order and the camera arrived, but, all in parts, and most of those mangled up. I contacted the seller and complained. She laughed at me on the phone. I boiled about it for about an hour and contacted Ebay to inform them about this crooked seller. Guess what, she had already contacted them and claimed that I refused to send her any money, as she claimed the deal was a C.O.D.. I was at that time bidding on a few other items and Ebay shut off my bids. This means that I became guilty of non payment on each of those, as well. Because Ebay had shut me out, I could find no way of contacting them after that. I now, consider that seller in Florida as having ultimately done me a favor. I can't buy or sell there unless I elect to change my user name, email address, and internet provider. I have no intention of doing any of these and will just laugh at some of the unfortunate buyers and sellers on the Evil Bay.

Re: boycott ebay

I've had overall great experiences on eBay. I bought my Schilke P5-4 on there for about $2000. I used an online escrow service. It cost me an extra 50 bucks, but I was able to receive the horn and make sure everything was ok before the seller got my money. Recently, I've used PayPal for everything. A couple of years ago, I bought a Technics CD player that was DOA. The seller flaked out and never gave me a refund, so I left him bad feedback. He has since stopped selling on eBay. It was one bad transaction out of maybe 100. Overall, eBay has been pretty good to me.

I agree, my experience there has been overall very positive.

Re: boycott ebay

I have been using Ebay since maybe early 2003 late 2002, and I think in all the transactions I have done (over 400) I have only not received one thing.
I don't use Ebay a lot anymore because these days it is cheaper to find the item in your area or through an online store, but if I am just looking for collector's items or odd things, Ebay is the way to go.
