Most probably that's they call down there a "swamp monster"...

Swamp Monsters are no problem if you are able to pronounce "g'day" correctly.

Lesson in 'Strine Langwich 101. Ref: Prof Afferbeck Lauder

It's simple, the Kiwis are fluent too (although they often add Bro as an optional suffix, as in "g'day Bro") - you simply say g'day - that is; the 'g' part of the expression is given as a hard 'g' - imagine in your minds eye a gutteral "gu" but not "gue" and certainly not "gee" - swallow the u bit and you're left with the correct sound - but with softly rounded edges, and the " ' " is not sounded at all in this instance. The "day" suffix of this expression is simply swallowed, like most word endings in Oz - example Brisbn, NOT Bris-BANE - Canbra, NOT Can-BERRA. So, with me now ...... g'day - gd, well done, now try it on your own. Tomorrow's lesson will be on the variation G'day, and then G'Day wll be later in the semester.

Any questions? Almost certainly the Aussies and Kiwis will have no trouble understanding, but then they can already speak the 'Strine Langwich fluently .

Your invoices will be in the post, or Paypal is fine - that's a tenner each, ta.

Thanks for the lesson, Ted. I had always thought that "g'day" was just the way Australians said "good day" after drinking the cold stubbies the Swamp Monster didn't drink. Trumpetmaster is so educational!

There are BIG spiders down under ...... Some years ago I was talking to a friend on the phone and she had to excuse herself because she heard a "thump" in the other room. I waited ..... She came back. "Okay, something just fell off the wall."

"What was it?" I asked her.

    "A spider."

How BIG is a spider that you can hear landing on the floor from the next room??? I'm not sure I want to know .....

Well, when you have eight feet, you have to have eight sandshoes, dropping one will make a noise so if the spidey jumps from the wall to the floor those eight little sandshoe suckers are going to make a noise - stands to reason.

Well years ago down in a Mallacoota beach shower block there were a couple of old huntsmen spiders. The larger one had a leg-span about as wide as my hand-span. I'm sure the tough bikey type who was waiting with me paled slightly beneath his beard when he saw them. One climbed over the wall into the ladies' side -- I only told my wife afterwards - lucky she hadn't seen it.

So, Little Miss Powers stood in a shower washing her **** away. Along came a spider who sat down beside her and asked for some very discreet play.
