![]() | A Chip off the old mouthpiece Something happened that pee'd me off today. I dropped my mouthpiece on the cement on the way home from a gig and right by the mouthpiece rim theres a big dent! After cleaning it up I tried to play it, and it plays fine, but my question is this. I once heard that if you play a mouthpiece with damaged plating, it can be toxic. Is there any truth to this? I really dont wanna have to scrap this mouthpiece and order a new one. Thoughts? ___________________ Work hard for what you want, and you’ll get it Equipment Martin Committee Trumpet, T3467RE Holton Heim # 2 Mouthpiece Rick AKA Trumpet Man |

| Forte User | I wouldn't worry about it too much - I played a mouthpiece for years *twitch twitch* that I had *twitch* worn through the plating on the rim over time. *twitch twitch twitch*. I think that as long as you can still play it and it plays the same, you will be ok with a little exposure to brass. I wouldn't think you would get enough brass through that small amount of surface contact for it to be toxic.

| Forte User | I would think it would be toxic only if the whole thing was raw brass. If it's only a small portion I wouldn't worry that much about it, but would think about replacing it when the cash permits. [/i]
