| Fortissimo User | Re: concert band class Grin and bear it and hope you get into a better ensemble next year. Trust me when I say I am in the same boat. Not sure if you are highschool or college, but that can be a factor of the people in the band. In high school, you tend to get a bunch of people whose parents make them play in band, in college you get people who don't really want to play, but want an "easy A" to help keep their GPA up. Yes, some people really want to be there, most of the music majors dont want to be because we want to be in the more selective band so that we don't have to deal with the immature idiots there for the easy A. I will admit that some people just aren't good but still love to play, and thats fine with me. But being a music major, I dont see why I have to waste my precious time having to sit and listen to the director say the same thing 10 times from people not listening, talking on the phone, or not practicing (which is why they are still not that good after playing at least through high school) |

| Forte User | Re: concert band class Man, I had the same problem all through high school. I'll never forget the year I came back after drum corps. We had a new teacher, a very good one (Brian Williams, Taught SCV, and marced Contra there Dont let other students hold you back. Become the best you can be, and thats all you can do. |

![]() | Re: concert band class Be a leader. Feel free to suggest certain players should practice more. Be a leader. Ask the director if you can play a solo for a concert. Leadership by example. Make a habit of talking about how much you enjoy practicing. Never get angry with anyone. Just suggest more dedication. Teach your section everything you know about how to practice. Try to have fun sectionals. Get some of James Olcott's music and feature your trumpet section. |

| Re: concert band class Try to find some community groups to play in - that helped me a lot in H.S. I was so busy playing outside school that school didn't bother me any more! In my college there was no one there for the "easy A" because it didn't exsist at my school. Just hang in there - take lessons, play outside school, and enjoy how much you improve. Leave the rest of them in the dust! |

![]() | Re: concert band class I is amazing how a little practice can put you to the head of the class. Keep practicing. It is good to hear you have an advanced band to play in in the the coming years. |
