Anyone remember the wonderful protective equipment they wore in the old days........( I think they called it muscle).... certainly in the case of head gear it was none! Remember the itchy old sweaters....the smell? The goal keepers finally decided to wear a mask........it was to hide the fact that every inch of their faces had been stitched and protect the forwards from drawing blood every time they shot on goal! I have been surprised at the limited amount of fighting.....was there a big change at some point?I saw Gordie when he played an All Star game in Canada... he scored three goals that night and as many elbows...I suppose they just had to learn to survive those days.......... I think I truly became a Red Wings fan back when they had the Russian Five, A.K.A. the Wizards of OV. I had my own nickname for them, the Red Vings. Fedorov, Fetisov, Konstantinov, Larionov, Koslov.
