So how does one post a custom avatar? I can't seem to get a picture to the right size or number of k. Do you use a different format than jpeg?

You can use an image editing program to alter an existing image. I used the GIMP 2 to make my avatar. It is a picture of a Yamaha 8335RGS, believe it or not. The GIMP is similar to Photoshop, but it's free.

I create my custom avatar as a .bmp, then save as a .jpg. The avatar you create should be no bigger than the one you have now. To make a size comparison, have your current avatar on screen and press the 'PRINT SCREEN' button on your keyboard. Then open a bitmap. Choose 'PASTE' and voila you have your size of your old avatar. When you create your new one, just make sure its the same size, and save it as a jpeg. Easy as 1, 2, 3
