Richard Oliver has a spectacular aura about
"Das Rheingold" Explicated

This is just so amusing I found my self laughing and smiling broadly.

There's no video, so I recommend you minimize it as you peruse Trumpet Master.

Anna Russell giving a synopsis of "Das Rheingold" on You Tube.

Some of it reminded me of some of my friends here -- imagining being in the audience hearing her do this live and just roaring.

YouTube - 3 - Anna Russell giving a synopsis of "Das Rheingold"

Part 2: YouTube - 4 - Anna Russell parodying Wagner's "Die Walküre"

Part 3: YouTube - 5 - Anna Russell storming through "Siegfried"

Part 4: YouTube - 6 - Anna Russell finishing off Wagner's "Götterdämmerung"

lolol, I'm still chuckling listening to it as I type this.

Hope You Laugh Too,

Richard

p.s. It is a HOOT I say. A certifiable HOOT!!

It is great stuff. Pity there is no video. And it is a pity that there is no video of the one and only Florence Foster Jenkins. We'll just have to be satisfied with their voices.

I discovered Anna Russell wa-a-ay back in school and got to see her live once several years ago. She invited all of us that knew her routines to just go and say them along with her! We didn't out of respect but, boy, was I tempted!

Re: "Das Rheingold" Explicated

Anyone remember Charlotte Bergen?
She was to conducting what Florence Foster Jenkins was to singing. Ms Bergen studied with Stokie, I hear. She had serious money. She rented Carnegie Hall, hired an orchestra and conducted a rehearsal of music she wanted to conduct. Most times these were just rehearsals with no performances planned. She provided work for players, but she was terrible on the podium.

YES!!! I got called to do a rehearsal with her and the American Symphony. I never played a concert with her but, yes, your description is dead on. Well, when you own a large portion of New Jersey, I guess you can do what you bloody well wnat.
