| DCI Eastern Classic day 1 1 The Cavaliers 95.575 93.025 +2.550 2 Phantom Regiment 94.600 92.000 +2.600 3 The Cadets 92.875 90.150 +2.725 4 Boston Crusaders 87.925 84.550 +3.375 5 Glassmen 85.550 82.900 +2.650 Wow!!! Congrats to the Cavies for what must have been a great show! Tomorrow night the rest of the big boys perform. It will be interesting to see how night #2 comes out. The scores above reflect tonight’s score with last week’s score and the change. I had predicted: 1-Phantom Regiment = 95.7 2-The Cavaliers = 94.5 3-Bluecoats = 94.075 4-Blue Devils = 94.0 5-The Cadets = 93.85 I was way off – I wonder what will happen tomorrow night? Did anyone else notice on the recap that Cavie’s brass is ½ point above Phantom’s brass. Cavies brass line is great, but so is Phantom’s. Wow! ½ point is a lot at this time of the season. I’m beginning to think that the point differential is too great for Phantom to catch the Cavies. |

I love Phantom. I always thought they were good, but my brother marched snare with them in 1989. The directors and other members of that corps did so much for him as a PERSON. He entered that summer a great kid, and came out of it a fine young man. Since that time I have been a huge fan of Phantom, and I will always sing their praises. As a musician and band director I always try to hold my standards high. Teaching the kids to act like ladies and gentleman, especially when representing my band is a very high priority. I really thought that PR accomplished that task as well as any musical group I have ever been around. | ||

| I agree that PR has a better than ususal horn line, and that the sound is "homogenous" from section to section, but the quality of sound between the two corps is so different. Phantom always claims to strive for an orchestral sound, yet they always seem bright and edgy to me. That's not to say that orch players don't have some edge to the sound when needed, but PR always seems to push their sound too far. The Cavaliers in recent years (2000-present) have completely changed their brass concept. Moving in not so much an orchestral direction as a Wind Ensemble or brass choir direction. The hornline is drilled daily in sound production, listening and balancing at all times with emphasis put on a characteristic trumpet, tuba, etc. sound. Not just an "outdoor" brass sound. Anyway, Cavaliers have the best product on the field this year, for my money, and their show has the highest potential for growth. My 2 cents. |
