| Mezzo Piano User | DCI Finals.... next year.... So, as many of you are aware, DCI Finals will be held in southern California. Now, thats not far at all from my nice litle town of Phoenix and I'm planning on taking a litle road trip to go see it. I've only got one question though, seeing as how I've never been to a DCI show (as an audience member) I havn't the slightest idea of how much it would cost to get into a show of this caliber, with decent seats. So how much money should I expect to be saving over the next year to be able to affor such a thing? I looked for this years ticket prices online, and couldn't find anything. Thanks! |

| Well, until August 30, 2006, there is a package deal you can purchase that gets you the same seat three nights in a row for the Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals. Depending on how good the seats you want are, it can cost $250, $165, or $125. This deal is apparently only on 'til the 30th. They are going to sell individual night tickets later for I don't know how much. I'm in So.Cal. myself, so I'm going to go too. How often are they out here on the West Coast? |

| Mezzo Piano User | Well, I've only been involved with DCI the past 4 years or so, unless I'm having a brain fart I don't think they've had the finals in California since I've been in the DCI world, but with so many big corps (Blue Devils, SCV, ect.) I can't imagin that it is too rare to have finals over there. |

| Pianissimo User | I've been into Drum Corps since 92. I don't know if there has ever been a finals West of Kansas City!! Maybe somewhere in Texas, but I don't think ever on the west coast. |

| It's been years since I've thought about DCI finals scores before I opened this post. When I was marching in the 80s, there were two brothers that marched with the group that I was in (an Open class corps from Tucson – Sunset Regiment), and then when our season was over (typically in early July), they would join other groups for the rest of the summer (one on Baritone the other on Snare). They were both fantastic players. One year (in 1986 I believe), the brother that played Baritone was marching with the Blue Devils and won the whole thing. The next year, his brother who was in the snare line for Santa Clara missed winning the title by one tenth of a point. Ouch! Several years later we had gotten together to catch up, and I had forgotten how competitive these two used to be. We had planned on going to a movie as a big group, and had just found the times at the different theaters in the paper. Someone asked what time it was, and the brother that played snare said, “It’s 8PM”. The other brother, without missing a beat said, “Yeah. But your watch is a tenth of a second slow!”. OUCH! Those guys could be brutal. |

| I still say that the scores are a farce! During the past couple weeks they have been driven by politics. During the next couple days the big boys will put in that last special touch/change oping to put themselves over the top. Most corps make very few improvements/changes/redesigns during the two weeks prior to finals. The score changes should have been in the 10ths of a point over the past week, with the big change coming at quarterfinals and semifinals. Those large changes at the last minute come because they actually make last minute changes to the drill, music, visual, or a combination of the three. Scores over the past few years have been artificially inflated to keep the interest of those of us who watch on line. I don't care how many points a corps scores. I just care about the spread between two given corps and is that spread getting larger or smaller? That's the reason I scratch my head when a corps like SCV makes up 2 points on the field in 5 days. I won't say that it is impossible, I'll just say that a change in the spread that large is hard to understand. |
