Do you play the french horn?

I was quite surprised at how many trumpet players I knew that turned out to be french horn players as well. Just out of curiosity, I'd like to know what % of trumpet players play the horn (not just picked one up once and played a few notes, but are fairly familiar with the notes and have played for others). Thanks.

Well, I once switched instruments with a mellophone during a pep band thing. I don't think that counts, though.

My husband the guitarist actually plays horn quite well - he started out on it in school and even went to a magnet H.S. on horn. Once in a while I play his horn a bit for fun -he usually takes it away from after a few minutes, saying " Stop - the neighbors will think it's me!" Didn't think I was THAT bad!!

Yeah, he definitely sounds like a horn player to me.

Re: Do you play the french horn?

French horn? Yup... I played french horn in 7th & 8th grade back in the early 70's, and still play it from time to time.

And then somehow over the years, I picked up:
- Euphonium
- Trombone
- Tuba

And even a few {gasp!} woodwinds as well!
- Sax
- Flute
- Clarinet

Re: Do you play the french horn?

I really like the rich tone that a french horn well give. I play it time to just to play around. I also play: trombone, tuba, clarinet, tenor sax, barri sax, and oboe.

I want to be a music educator so I think being well rounded will help in the long run.

Re: Do you play the french horn?

I can make an idiot out of myself both on the french horn and the trumpet, so I guess you can say I'm anti-talented.
