It's called "suicide by police". The police would far rather have the incident end with everyone unharmed than have to kill someone; even if he was "begging for it". I agree with you... unfortunate that it had to work out the way it did.

Generally attacking a cop w/a knife, gun, club, bat, machete, samurai sword, revolver, etc.... will get you shot.
