Having that many cops may seem excessive but consider this.

-When the truck stops, crashes or whatever you will need officers to keep media, motorists, rubberneckers and what not at a safe distance.

-Not that the speeds were high in this particular pursuit, but I have been in pursuits where people will not get out of the way, and in some where we are trucking down the interstate in excess of 100 and nobody is in our way. The latter example is due to the # of officers/cop cars behind me.

- What if this guy starts crashing in to cars? You need someone there to render aid, block traffic etc... Rendering aid takes priority over a pursuit, so if there were 3 cars invovled, and two get hit, you may lose to cop cars, now you have one pursuing the bad guy.

- Let's say this ends up in a standoff? You need enough people in place to set up a perimeter, and again deal w/the others that will invariably congregate at the scene.

- This was not a situatuaiton where they are flying down city streets at a bucktwenty. This is a low speed pursuit and the rewards out weigh the risks as far as having that many cops present.

- Most importantly it gets you out of writing reports for a while.

All good points...

I'd say this could not have ended better.

When I first started watching the video I had a bad feeling.

Let's hear it for Dallas!

Perp in custody; fortunately no one really hurt. You can't ask for better then that.
