| Re: Ernie and his duckie The black Carribean lady singing in Spanish was the immortal Celia Cruz. She was a Cuban artist who wasn't mainstream here in the US but very well known by most latinos on the eastern seabord. She was singing "Suelta el patijo!" which means literally "Let go of the duckie!". The little kids that watched Sesame Street mostly had no clue as to who this woman was when they watched the show but as most stuff on Sesame Street, it was designed to get their parents attention. They were probably the ones who got the biggest kick out of that video. That bit has had several incarnations and it seems they like updating it very few years (new parents, you know). There's a version that's about 10 minutes long they made several years ago. It's a great bit. ML |
