Fast track Trial

A co-worker of mine is serving on this Jury.

We've not heard from her since last week as she has been sequestered. It will be interesting to see what the Jury has to say. Frankly I'm amazed that deliberations have lasted this long!

Re: Fast track Trial

Ah, the wonderful jury trial.

I will more than likely never experience a jury trial, at least in a criminal case. Generally the last thing a defense attorney wants on the jury is a cop.

Re: Fast track Trial

If I were innocent, I would be tempted to waive the trial by jury and let the judge decide. If I were innocent and did have a jury trial, I would love having a police officer on the jury. If I were guilty, I would demand a jury by my peers, in this case murderers. I wonder if the person on jury duty is one of John's Detroit colleagues?

Ahhh a Vulgano Brother sees things in such a colorful light....

Update:

The Jury found him guilty and reccommend the Death Penalty. Monday the Judge will pass sentence...

How's that for fast track!

No my co-worker is a life long Columbus Resident; as a matter of fact I don't believe she has left the state of Georgia ever!

In Detroit we would have simply placed cement tennis shoes on this man and deposited him in the Detroit River!

Re: Fast track Trial

I, for one, would not want to sit on the jury of a murder trial. Too much hangs in the balance. I can't imagine being responsible for the fate of another human in that manner, nor would I ever want to be. Mistakes happen...and to lock a person up for the rest of their life or sentence them to death..(so be it if they are guilty...they deserve it) what a huge responsibility. Or, to release the guilty party of charges... that would be about as bad a thing as can happen.

Re: Fast track Trial

I did sit on jury in Cook County IL. It was pretty obvious and the jury deliberated for less then an hour before sending him to prision for second degree murder. (it was unpremeditated the poor victim was in the wrong place at the wrong time) The judge came back to meet with us after the trial to thank us and told us he would have come up withe the same verdict. (and to remember his name as it was an election year... I did, he was a very good judge and a lawyer friend that argued in front of him said the same thing very fair and competent which isnt' always there in a criminal court judge)

Don't worry about mistakes Glenn, if there are truely mistakes they probably will come out in the appeal process. And they really beat into you at orientation and when they inpanal you that the defendant is innocent until proven guilty the burden lies with the DA not the defense attorney. Afterwards we found out that was his 3rd trial for murder and the 1st conviction that the defendant got (he was 19), so even if a guilty person goes free chances are they will be in the system again. I think at least in the criminal part of the court system things seem to work other then it takes too damn long to get to trial.
