Getzen Deluxe Bugle

I have owned a Getzen Deluxe Bugle for many years. I bought it at the Firehouse antique store in Seattle. (That was for Valgano.) A whopping $25.00. It is chrome plated and plays lower than my Bb trumpet. This horn has a nice dark sound. It has one piston valve and one rotary. There is a main tuning slide and a tuning slide on the rotary valve loop.

What key does it play in?

What is the fingering?
I use:
do, rea, me, fa, so, la, te, do
0, 1, 0, 1, 0, 1, rotary, 0 (1 is piston)

Thank You.

It's probably pitched in G. I have no idea about the fingerings for a marching bugle, though.

Sure that wasn't 0,1,0,1,0,1+rotor, rotor,0? It could well be a D.E.G. (Donald E. Getzen) soprano bugle and they are, I believe pitched in G. Too bad, in F you could use it on the Brandenburg and pay for your investment the first gig, as well as providing some excellent YouTube entertainment!

Re: Getzen Deluxe Bugle

I'll give that valve combination a try. Yes. The valve combination you suggest works pretty well. It has to be better than what I'm trying now. Thanks for the answers. The G key sounds pretty good.

Thank You for the link.

Maybe I could saw some length out of it an make it an F? Just kidding.

I don't think it meets specifications to use for funerals. I think the requirement is Bb.
The G sure sounds nice and mellow.

I believe both the Getzen and Kanstul field trumpets that are manufactured today for use at funerals (and other bugle-type events) are available in the keys of G and Bb. I'm sure a G bugle like you have would be fine, even if it is a drum corps instrument. The sound's what counts, and just about anything beats those electronic bugles.

Re: Getzen Deluxe Bugle

Thank You all for you input. I think there is a concerto for bugle and orchestra or band out there. It might be something to work on.
