A great conventional oil

If you are into oil Or if you ever have any questions... This is the place

These guys are oil nuts. I've been on there for a while and have come to the conclusion Chevron / Havoline DINO is a fantastic oil. It is one of the cheaper oils at Wal Mart. But the guys on this site swear by it. A couple of years ago I started using it and it runs great in my Acura Integra and my wifes POS cavalier. I won't look back. This oil runs especially well in Hondas. Don't let the price scare you. Its great stuff.

MJ:

Is that a synthetic?

I've never used synthetic as I've always changed my oil at 3000 miles.

With my new RSX however, I may go synthetic and change at 7,500 miles.

What's your thoughts?

Greg

Greg, The Havoloine / Chevron I'm talking about is the "conventional" / "dino" oil. non synthetic. It could be found at Walt Mart for $1.40 before the prices on everything went up. A search for it on BITOG will turn up incredible reviews. These guys send their used oil to labs to have tested No messing around.

I know Havoline makes a semi syn and I'm sure its fantastic

I would feel comfortable running this stuff for 5k with a decent filter no problem.

I'm sure your RSX came with a "conventional" honda oem oil to brake the motor in. Any synthetic with 7,500k changes would work fine. In fact 10K would probably be no sweat.

One piece of advice I will give you is you might want to go with some thing besides Mobil 1 in that car. Honda motors eat that stuff up. Its a great oil but it is on the thin side for its spec. The high revs of the RSX S motor don't help it.

I've always been a Valvoline fan, but I might have to consider the Havoline.

Which synthetic do you like?

Also, which filters?

I've been using Fram's 'step up' filters (don't remember the name).

Anything synthetic would work fine for 7500k changes. I'd just stay away from the M1 with your car. it would work great. But might burn off easier

Valvoline is good. Their Max Life and Max Life Synthetic is great stuff but you wouldn't see much benefit with a newer car.

Stay away from fram at all costs. They are horrible filters. Do a search for FRAM on BITOG and see for yourself.

I like the NAPA Gold Filters for value and quality. They are excellent. I also use Wal Mart Super Tech filters. Far superior to FRAM if you can believe it.
