![]() | Hard drive enclosure I need a hard drive enclosure for a new 300 gig hard drive. Anyone happy or unhappy with their external hard drive enclosure. I see many times the warranty is longer on the hard drive if you buy the hard drive not in an external enclosure, so I'm getting the 2 components separately. Some don't have fans, do they get hotter than the ones with fans. I don't if there's a little noise. Any recommendations appreciated.

![]() | drive enclosures Dow30: I've been using Drivedocks by Wiebetech: http://www.wiebetech.com/home.php on the left, click on "drivedocks". These run cool since there is no case. I use both the standard drive dock and the combo dock. They both use standard IDE drives. I used to buy standard external drives, but some had heat issues. Also, the number cases and power supplies got out of hand. I rarely needed to have all drives online at once. So I got a couple of drivedocks and bought raw IDE drives whenever they went on sale. Having 2 drivedocks allows me to copy and move files among all my drives. Garry |

![]() | Gary, I checked out the website. That looks handy as I swap hard drives all the time. Thanks for the info,

![]() | I do pretty much the same thing by either just laying the drive in the enclosure or pulling the guts. I use em for moving files, data recovery, forensics, etc.

![]() | Yeah, my desktop isn't even enclosed as I'm always swapping stuff. I have 2 dvd drives in it and 2 hard drives, so I have to go the usb or firewire route. I'm constantly yanking on the ribbons so I thought I'd just get some usb or firewire enclosure. That way if I want to take it and hook to someone elses box there's no problem.

![]() | I try and keep my boxes closed. One is a dedicated 2003 server for testing and the other in my workstation. I've got both on a 2port kvm.
