Horn collectors - how do you display your collectable horns?
I collect golf clubs from Old Tom Morris and other notable club makers. My collection is displayed in my game room along with some other collectable items. I enjoy them whenever I'm in the room, while playing pool, watching a little TV, or working on the computer.
So how do you display your horns? I would imagine that if you have a good deal of $$$ invested in your horn collection you would not want to keep them in cases, rather you would want to display them, even have them out so you could play them from day to day. So how do you go about enjoying your horns? Do you display them, play them, or just take them out from time to time?
One more question -- are they for sale? My clubs are never for sale. I collect them because I enjoy them because they are part of the history of a game I enjoy. Are your horns for sale, like an investment, or are they part of a collection that is always growing?

My horns, like my guns, are locked in a safe. Gone are the days when I felt comfortable displaying things in a glass-fronted display case. Too risky........

I have built different display racks and boxes for my horns. I have 3 and 8-year old girls so I wanted racks that are not in easy reach for them. I ended up with 4 different types of displays:
1. A tabletop or wall mountable horizontal display rack with bottom shelf. Note that the tabletop rack has its bottom shelf blocked by the mouthpiece rack I also built;
2. A vertical display shadow box (sorry for the bad picture);
3. A vertical display plaque with bell support;
4. A framed and fabric-padded horizontal display.
As you can see from these pictures, my carpentry skills are not great, but these were all pretty simple to build and get the job done. If there were commercially available versions of these out there, I would have probably just bought those, but I never found anything in my searches.
Drop me a line if you are interested in any of these designs.

A friend displays his collection of 12-20 horns on a wall, using simple stainless hooks with a bit of felt glued on the top to prevent scratching. It looks stunning, coming into a wall of trumpets.

Paul, that framed and velvet lined "picture" frame looks superb. Nice job. I especially like the attention you obviously paid to getting the "right" frame for the job (not one of those $5.00 discount specials).
Nice job.
