Hybrid Convertable -- does one exist???

I love to drive, and in my younger days was usually a bit above the speed limit most of the time, but now days I just like to drive. On an average day day I probably drive 10-15 miles (my 2001 pick up has 30,000 miles on it).

As it gets close to the time that we will be buying a car for my daughter (she will be driving in 3 years) I was thinking about buying a hybrid convertable and enjoying it myself for a couple years, and then giving it to her as her car for high school and college. In doing my research I have yet to find a company that has a hybrid convertable, so I'm asking you guys -- is there one out there???

I'd love to get a car that is cute, fun to drive (not a speedster) and gets 45-60 MPG. Any ideas???

I don't think there's anything stock available today. But if you can afford the $80K price tag and wait until next year you can have one of these babies.

Wind drag would probably hurt mileage with the top down, but somehow I don't think I'd mind too much on a sunny day.

Another option would be to get proven technology like a Prius and have it pimped. There are plenty of shops that could do this - probably cheaper than directly from the manufacturer - whenever they get around to it...........

The Saab is still a just concept car, right? I do agree that having something proven "pimped" makes more sense. If one could get a successful result, that is. All hybrids I know of are 4-door cars, but convertibles are supposed to be 2-door models, right? (Maybe I'm too much of a traditionalist in this regard.) I own/drive a Prius and while I think it is a great car I can't imagine it as a decent convertible.

Here are pictures of a salvaged Prius that was turned into a convertible, so people can decide for themselves.

MJ - Pimping my Prius..how can I think of that when there are so many trumpets to buy first?

Bandman,
I have a 2004 Fire Red Mustang for you. It has a 3.9 liter engine with traction control and ABS. Only 39600 miles. Your daughter would look good in this car.
I will be glad to give you a good deal.
PM me.

Re: Hybrid Convertable -- does one exist???

Ummmmmm..... no hybrid convertable prius for me thanks!

I did find that the honda civic will have a sun roof. I guess that is as close as I'll get.

I'm proud of myself for at least thinking hybrid. A few years ago I would have been thinking POWER!!!

I've decided that I'm putting $20K in an account this week for a car for my daughter. When she learns to drive she will get a practical car, hopefully a hybrid with great gas mileage. That will be her car for high school and college and I guess in the end I'll have given her a good economical SAFE first car that will take her from High School into teh real working world.

Darn, it's hard to be a good father when it would be so much more fun to go out and buy a new 350Z for myself.

Re: Hybrid Convertable -- does one exist???

.

If you can hold off on some fun in the sun for the next couple of years, and redirect that 20K Bandman- likely you could swing your Daughter's Hybrid and the 350 too?

You may want to speak with Offshore Banking, Tax Havens and Global Investing
Good outfit there.
