| Forte User | I am in a music video! About a month ago I got a call that a hip-hop band I play in (when they want horns) was filming a music video. They are really getting big now, and are signed by Universal and Motown. Fresh Videos This is the music video. It has some lyrics which may not be suitable for younger viewers. I am playing sousaphone (my double). It took us about 4 hours to film, and they had a full crew with a huge crane camera. I feel bad for the audience who had to listen to the same song over and over and over. Luckily for them we played a short set afterwards as a thank you. I have never done anything like that before, and it was tons of fun being treated like a rockstar for a day. Hopefully they keep asking the horns back when they really blow up!

BTW, did somebody write out the charts for the music or did somebody just say, "play x-y-z sequence in F, 4 bars, repeat..." or some verbal instruction and you had to make it up from there and keep doing it until everyone finally synched?

They played us the tracks with synth instruments and we learned the parts aurally. Sometimes they change the form of the song at shows to be longer or shorter or segue into other tunes. There is no written music for the horns. Quote:
In terms of playing ability, the guys in the band are fantastic musicians. The bass player went to Berklee and can play some serious bass and keys. The guitarist also has higher level training. The drummer is one of the most solid drummers I have played with. He is always in the pocket. If that is the kind of music they want to use to express their talent, then all the power to them. They are becoming very successful. Like it or not, this kind of music is what the masses listen to these days. It isn't my favorite, but What I do love about the band is that they PLAY their instruments and there is no autotune. Gotta give them credit for actually playing live instead of lipsyncing and mimicry.
