I'm Back Too!

Woo hoo. Just got home from a few days of repeatedly throwing myself off of icy mountains. What a blast! If you've never considered trying the Canadian Rockies.... WHY NOT!??? It's true... God's country for sure.

Here's yours truly getting ready for another attempt at defying gravity (although I've heard that gravity is a myth... the planet sucks!)

You can find this scenic view at Fernie, BC. Come on down, the powder's fine (don't pay any attention to that avalanche warning....they're like buses....another will be along any moment).

ps... that color of the sky? It is NOT enhanced... that's the actual depth of blue out this-a-way.

My parents and my grandparents went up to Lake Louise a LONG time ago (like 20 years or so). Dad said the Canadian Rockies put Colorado and Wyoming to shame. Seems he was right. I'd love to see them for myself someday.

Please tell me you didn't ski a double black...

You don't ski a double black.... you survive it! Usually the only difference between a black and a double black is..... they add trees.... great bloody BIG trees... to make it a double B. Or else cut the width of the trail in half... to maybe 10'.

Bandman... I could easily get used to your idea of the ideal snow. Kind of reminds me of my honeymoon. Hmmm... maybe if I can shovel the last two kids out the door one of these years.............

Ed -- is that you in the picture ?

Why the short skis ? They're for the "Bunny Slopes", aren't they ?

Try "The Asp" at Camelback (Poconos, PA) on 205's or longer. If you survive, I'll buy you a drink (Remy Maartin, of course).

Looks a lot like the Swiss Alps. You should come give them a try some time Toots.

Ah, but as the ski technology has improved there is no longer a need for the out-of-date "longer is better" any more than there is a need to say "Why, I can remember when trumpets didn't have those sissy valves and we all used cookie-cutter mouthpieces".

I learned to ski on 210s back in the mid 70's on Quebec and Vermont "blue ice". I see no reason to continue to batter my body when there is a better way.

Mike, I'd love to ski the Swiss Alps (or take any other Euro ski vacation). When I was a kid my dad was in the Air Force (Canadian) and we lived in Europe for 4 years. I've always wanted to go back to Switzerland.

We have friends who live up on the side of a mountain in Bavaria, in the Memmingen area (just south of Ulm). We're planning on visiting them in the summer of '06. (Yeah... SUMMER.... kids are out of school and the skiing is lousy). I don't suppose any of you guys might be still "in residence" in Bamberg about then?

I had the opportunity to ski, drink and hottub with a number of UK folks this past week at the mountain. Their universal comment was that they preferred to spend the extra money and come all the way to Canada to ski because it's getting so crowded and the folks are so rude and pushy in Europe (and they admitted that it was mostly some of the "yobs" from their own country who were at fault...I'd always heard it was some of the "extreme southern Alpenlanders" who were the noisy, rude ones). So I guess that would tend to put me off a bit from going there in winter... although I'll be the first to admit that the air fares are sure a lot more attractive in winter than they are in summer!

Maybe one day though.....

Safe home to ya, Mike.
