Re: Instruments that play like a trumpet.

i love playing the baritone i played it for about a year straight. it's just a pain trying to readjust to the seemingly tiny mouthpiece of a trumpet or cornet.

Re: Instruments that play like a trumpet.

I started playing a baritone a few months ago when the concert band I joined had 11 trumpet players. a few to many as far as I was concerned.

Most bands have music in both treble and bass clef for this instrument and the fingering is the same as trumpet. It has a very nice tone. I love it.

I also picked up an alto horn in Eb. It has an beautiful tone as well. Not as deep as the baritone. But the bands i"m in have no use for them. I just use it to fool around on.

I think you could play an alto sax part but I'm not sure. It may be a bit high for this horn. The guy I bought mine from said it was the low model?

Vince, the Eb Tenor Horn is usually used in Brass Bands rather than Concert Bands - I guess they have a similar timbre to a French Horn - but they are nice to fiddle with aren't they - I rather like mine too.
