| Forte User | Kid dies after being left in car all day How many of these stories do we have to hear before people wake up and start paying attention to their kids? http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/14926060.htm This is beyond tragic, but it shows just how "I" centered we have become. Kids are a burden, an after-thought. I can't speak for myself, since I'm so busy as well...but I can gurantee you that my wife would NEVER forget she left a kid in the car. Of course, she doesn't work, so her priority IS our children. If you are going to work, make sure you do whatever it takes to keep your kids at the top of your mind. I know this is a bit harsh in light of the circumstances, but accidents like these are entirely preventable and are nothing more than the result of people who are more obsessed wtih their own careers or self than they are with their children. Sad..... |

| Fortissimo User | And one more reason for law enforcement to start ENFORCING the laws (which should be on the books) about the degree of tint on ALL windows of a vehicle! I know that tinting works well at cutting glare, but it cuts down on following drivers' ability to see "through" the vehicle (turning them all into "panel vans") and it sure doesn't help law enforcement when they have to stop something they can't see into. Tragic, tragic. It goes to show how stress-overloaded our society has become. |

| You know I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but Holy S***! How in the hell do you forget to drop off your kid at day care and leave him/her in the car all day. This seems like a screwy cover story to me. Maybe she intended to kill her child and needed the daycare folks to back up her "I didn't know" story. Either way I just can't buy that anyone can be so damn stupid! This is the problem any idiot can parent a child. I'm so freakin pissed I'm going to wet myself.... I hope she'll be tried and convicited of Neglegent Homicide at least! |

| For once I may disagree w/King!!!! If the investigation shows that it was just someone with their head in their a$$ then losing a kid is punishment enough. Unfortunately this happens all too frequently. Just as driving requires your undivided attention, being a parent requires the same. Window tint laws differ by state in the US. In MN it is legal for minivans, SUV's to have the windows behind the driver's seat tinted. Yeah, it sucks walking up on vehicles w/dark windows, especially at night. This is why I cheek my pistol when I do approach said vehicles. In the winter, when I am wearing a jacket, most people have a .357 pointed at them and don't know it. |

| Respectfully disagreed. Being a parent myself I just can't imagine being imcompetent enough to forget to drop my kid off at day care. It's not like "Oh crap I forgot my book in the car" Were talking about a child here.... Perhaps emotions got the best of me for a minute; however I really believe that no excuse is good enough. As parents we are charged with the task of protecting our children among many, many other things. I think that it's safe to assume that this mother failed miserabley! As for window tinting your spot on! Michigan had no laws on the books until shortly after I departed local law enforcement for my current career. I used to really hate to walk up on the then legal mirror tint windows of a car. These are the windows that when you look at them look as though you are looking into a mirror. Someone could easly be on the other side of that with a .45 pointing into your gut and you'd never know it until your insides were now your outsides. I got into the habit of walking up on those cars much the same as you described. My service weapon at the time was a S & W .357 magnum desert eagle. It most certainly was pointed in their direction. |

| King, I share your feelings on being a parent. However, you and I both know there are plenty of parents that have no businesss operating a motor vehicle, much less being a parent. You need a license to drive a car, but not to be a parent. Go figure. The big loser with all incompetent parents are the children as it was so tragically illustrated in the above story. |

What it does show is that any idiot can copulate and reproduce. It certainly doesn't mean they can PARENT, which this person clearly did not do.

I can't imagine how difficult it makes the job of law enforcement to deal with two things: These stupid overly tinted windows and the even stupider selections of vanity and design license plates law enforcement has to be able to identify in one fleeting moment! I'm not talking about what's written on the plates. Rather, the backgrounds that seem to be legion in their design variations. 40cal, how many different background designs in Minnesota alone are there? At least five, no? And that's just one state, never mind whatever they're doing in the five-state area we live in. ML
