Laptop Audio Question

Howdy all, I recently purchased a Sound Blaster bus sound card for my laptop to improve the audio and for recording purposes. I use a Sony ECM-MS957 microphone with Adobe Audition, and now I get this wicked hiss in all of my recordings. I use this for my practice sessions, but it really bugs me because I've never had the hiss before, and it kind of defeats the whole purpose of buying the sound card, so, any ideas what it could be or a possible remedy?? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Is it possible that this is a Dell? If so, this seems to be a common problem with Dell's design. They place the mic input close to the power source, which creates interferance. The better soundcard may be a bit more sensitive, which might be why you notice it now. In Audition, luckily, you can eliminate this noise. I have to run, and I'll check later today when I get back on how. (Or maybe someone else is really up on their Audition editing chops and knows how right off...)

The hiss can come from a variety of problems.
Is the microphone volume ok or very weak? If weak, the input is probably configured as "line" and not "mic"
Is the battery on the ECM-MS957 weak? This has haunted me for years with eletret condenser microphones.
Try another audio program like Audacity just to see if it is an Adobe thing

Found it. Highlight the track/area, and click "Effects" menu. Under effects, go to Restoration and select "Hiss Reduction". Select on the right side of the window either standard, low or high hiss reduction. Set your noise floor, and be sure to preview. You could be editing out desirable overtones if you go too far.
