![]() ![]() ![]() | Mel Wanzo Those in the jazz community and the people of Detroit are mourning the passing of Mel Wanzo, the great trombonist of the Count Basie and Duke Ellington orchestra. Mel was a real classy man. After retiring from Basie's band, he relocated in Detroit and continued to play with local bands including the Johnny Trudell Orchestra. http://www.detnews.com/2005/obituari...B05-310394.htm -cw-

![]() | You know, it's a terrific thing that you and, recently, Wilmer have done as far as letting us know about these musicians that have died. I have come to feel sorry that too many musicians that have lived their lives for their art pass on without many people knowing about them. I think it's a good idea for us post the stories of these folks, read about them and in so doing honor their memory with the act of just learning a little bit about them. Maybe we need a "sticky" that can sort of be a TM obituary section for lives well-lived. I hope no one sees that as a morbid thought but rather a respectful one. ML |

Not just a listing of everyone who died, but a musician's "Hall of Fame" so to speak of the good men or women who touched our lives in a real personal way. Good idea Manny! -cw-
