![]() ![]() ![]() | MP Centered on the Centre of Buzz? A puzzling thing for me - when I buzz without the MP, the centre (center) of the buzz is just a gnats nut off centre to the left, but when I add the MP (and Trumpet) everything appears quite centered on my mouth. I have noticed that sometimes I have to 'search' a little for the clean sound, but once established I don't have a problem maintaining it. What do you think? Should the centre of buzz be the same with or without MP? Would it be logical to attempt to centre the MP on the centre of the unsupported buzz? This is an academic question for me - I have no plans to re-invent the wheel.

![]() ![]() | Re: MP Centered on the Centre of Buzz? I think you will divide people into two camps with that question, Ted. There has already been people in here saying that one should place the centre of the mp on the spot that the lips are the most willing to vibrate when free buzzing. I belong to the other camp. One thing that speaks against the opinoin above is that also your teeth will be part of determining the mp position. Since I think that the mp is part of the embouchure and since the centered position works for you, my opinion is that you should keep it centered. To my opinion, when free buzzing, a lot of tension has to be applied to the lips that isn´t used when playing with the mp. This fact as well as my belief that the mp is part of the embouchure makes me never free buzz. I just can´t see the meaning of it. Some very skillful players have, however, already recommended it in here. My opinions are just those I have at the present! Hopefully a real discussion about the matter starts that will bring more clarity of the matter. There are many good pedagogs in here that can contribute if they choose to!
