Nick says "Hi!"

Hi Manny, I just wanted to let you know that I did a Christmas concert last night in City Hall here in Sheffield with the Halle Orchestra, and got chatting to Nick Trygstad and passed along your regards. He asked me to say hi, and ask how you're doing.

I also wanted to let the good people of TM know something he said to me whilst we were chatting. He told me that he hated Youth Orchestra, but that you were its saving grace. He enjoyed playing under your direction a great deal, and it seems to me that without your influence he might not have continued to study music, and would not be where he is today.

So there you have it folks, Manny is such a great guy to work with, that his influence resulted in one young man who did not enjoy orchestra all that much sticking with it and becoming principal cellist in one of the worlds best orchestras. Nice one Manny!

Re: Nick says "Hi!"

You're more than welcome Manny, I'm glad I finally got a chance to meet him. A very plesant guy, who at first seemed little nervous of me. I think he was a bit confused as to why a complete stranger would just walk right up to him and say "Excuse me, are you Nick?", then pass on greetings from someone about four thousand miles away! But he seemed very happy to recieve the message, and was quite friendly when he realised I wasn't a wierdo.

Re: Nick says "Hi!"

Very cool, Clarino... I'm happy to say that many of my old orchetsra students are startin gto place in great orchestras. I have a viloinist who got into Cleveland a couple of years ago, a hornist who's playing regularly with Vienna Phil, and most recently, a violist who's going to be a contender for a spot with the MO. There are other's that I'm forgetting, i'm embarrased to say.

Oh, and our new Miss Minnesota is one of my violists from a few years back. Her mission is to create a greater awareness of the need to have music education be a greater priority for young people. She'll be competing for Miss America next month!

Miss Minnesota:
Do violists get a fast vibrato when they are nervous? (Just kidding)
We wish Nicole luck for the pageant.
She has a great mission, hope her agents do not make her focus more "commercial"....................

She's a pretty darn good violist too. She was in the New York String Orchestra when I did it a couple of years ago.
