| Pianissimo User | North Dakota / Minnesota Scene I wrote a post not too long ago about me relocating. I'd like to know some of the places to play/see live music MN and ND. My main interest would be the Twin Cities in MN, and between Grand Forks and Fargo in ND. I'm not sure how many responses I can get from this, but I look forward to any insight. Thanks in Advance, Jon |

![]() | Re: North Dakota / Minnesota Scene Jon- The Twin Cities are in many ways great for hearing live music. The Minnesota Orchestra and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra are both world class. For the most part they're complimentary--thy tackle much different repertoire, with the SPCO doing a very healthy amount of modern music. Jazz is pretty good here too--the Dakota in Minneapolis and the Artists Quarter in St. Paul have a mix of local (very good) and national acts (although both clubs are small, so the price can be steep for national acts). There several non professional orchestras of varying degrees of ability level. The Civic Orchestra of Minneapolis and the Bloomington Symphony are probably the two best non-professional orchestras. I've been playing in Bloomington and this year we've pulled off very solid performances of Church Windows, Saint Saens Organ Symphony and Heldenleben. There is also a very healthy big band scene. I would say that there are four bands that play at a very high level. A lot of times you can just call up the leader and ask to come sit in at one of their bar gigs and that gets your foot in the door. From what I've heard, Fargo has a pretty good symphony. I'm going up there this weekend to hear my former teacher, Charlie Schlueter, play the Tomasi with them. They're also doing the Saint Saens Organ Symphony, so I should have a pretty good idea of how they play. Feel free to send me an email if you have any more questions. jmichiel@msn.com -Jimi |

| Pianissimo User | Re: North Dakota / Minnesota Scene Sorry for taking so long to reply, The reason why i'm moving is due to some family issues that I have to take care of. It's really not sometihng I can avoid. It's going to be tough for me to start over professionally there but I have confidence I can do it. I appreciate your responses! Jon |
