Not exactly on topic Has anyone on this form tried to give up caffeine ever? Because all this week I decided to completely stop drinking sodas and I haven't had coffee and I'm really tired by the time my band class rolls around. So tired to the point of being really absent minded. Also everyone keeps asking me "Hey man ... are you baked? You look totally baked." I don't know why I'm posting this, I guess it's just because it's 7:34 and I'm waiting for my trumpet lesson.

Re: Not exactly on topic Add more healthy foods to your diet, drink plenty of water and give it a couple of weeks... you will never miss the caffine... I gave up soda and coffee a couple of months ago... High Blood pressure... at first I thought I would never make it, but now I feel better than ever!! The energy you get from eating right and exercising is so much better and lasts so much longer than the "buzz" you get from caffine!!

Re: Not exactly on topic I drink coffee every morning, and if I don't I'll have a headache. By the time lunch is over I need more caffeine, but I don't drink any more coffee. I get a headache then and feel tired, but I just ignore it.

By the way, I tried to switch to decaffeinated and couldn't drink it. It even tastes different to me even though it's the same roast (or supposed to be). So, that should tell you something... It's the caffeine!!! Gotta have my drugs man!!! Last edited by commakozzi : 02-14-2008 at 09:28 AM. | |

yeah...I went cold turkey on sugar and caffine about 6 weeks ago...drinking tons of water (oh...how very exciting a beverage...NOT). But...that's the way it is. after like 55 years of sugar and caffine...figured all that stuff ain't healthy for me...(duh...thick head). daughter quit sodas couple of years back and dropped like 40-50 lbs over a year...just by giving up the soda. (WOW). So...first step to getting somewhat back in shape. dizzyizzy

Re: Not exactly on topic Good deal Dizzy... yeah I guess you wouldn't be, but a lot of people would be suprised by how much extra weight they're carrying around just from stuff they drink!!! That's why I drink my coffee black (no cream, no sugar), and if I'm not drinking coffee I'm drinking water... except for the occassional beer.

Re: Not exactly on topic Yeah... Dropping soda alone can really help with weight loss! Here is some food for thought: While there is no "recommended daily allowance" for sugar... most experts agree no more than 30-40g of processed sugar should be consumed daily. Look at the back of the soda you are getting ready to drink... remember a 20oz soda has 2.5 servings... that is going to make it hard to stay under 40g, isn't it!! The short skinny (sorry for the pun) is this... basically your body uses fat and protien stores to power your body... well sugar is easier to burn and provides "better" fuel... the problem is if you are consuming more sugar ( and generally more fat) than your body can burn... guess what happens to the fat and sugar that can not be burned? Yep it gets stored, causing weight gain and a host of other health problems... cut the soda out... or at least switch to diet soda... drink plenty of water and go for a 20min walk everyday and you will be amazed at how quickly you lose body fat! Now that is a diet anyone can stick too!! Mike

Re: Not exactly on topic Yeah, just don't get home from your walk and eat three candy bars at 10:30 am and then go pick up a triple stack cheeseburger, large fries, and a diet coke for lunch! "I'll have the left side of the menu and a diet coke"
