| Oscars Jon Stewart is hosting, so I watched the opening monologue.....mind you, I NEVER EVER watch the Oscars. The opening short film was hilarious with Billy Crystal and Chris Rock sharing a tent on a spoof of "BBM". What made my jaw drop was when Jon pointed to Stephen Spielberg and said, "Schindler's List.....Munich.....I can't wait to see what's gonna happen to us (Jews) next." The other eye-popping "joke" was, "Walk The Line....which is Ray with white people". Hmmm......I wonder if ol' Jon is gonna catch some flack? The other funny thing was a short spoof film they had of Tom Hanks giving pointers for acceptance speeches. The orchestra was giving the cue music to end the speech and Hanks kept on speaking. They made a bunch of folks with instruments (playing orchestra musicians) come up on stage and crowd around him. The tbone was poking him, a clarinetist shot a tranquilizer dart at his neck and a violinst finally broke her violin over his back. I thought it was hilarious because I didn't expect them to do anything recognizing the orchestra. I will have it on in the background. I am anxious to see if Phillip Seymour Hoffman wins for "Capote". He is a great talent and did an incredible job. UPDATE: Wooo Hooo! M'boy Seymour won! *Click* TV goes off now. LOL. |

| Fortissimo User | I was kind of torn between two shows this evening: the Oscars and the Westminster Dog Show. Ended up flipping back and forth but overall I'd say the dog show won. Any similarities (and jokes) between the two are purely intentional! I don't know who Jon Stewart is/was ... but surely they could have found someone with some LIFE to him/her! |

| Yeah, The opening was indeed the highlight for sure. I don't normally watch any award shows as they are just forums for these kuckleheads to stroke their egos even more. But I was curious to see how John Stewart would fair. Chris Rock whom I thought was great last year most likely learned that you can't pick on these thin skinned babies too much or you won't be asked to come back and host next year. Oh well, in the end Hockey won out hands down... Can't wait for the playoffs.... |

| I spent it studying the score to Brahms 3rd since I have to cover that this week! The first symphony is also on tap. Usually I'll watch some of it but the TV set is busted anyway, gotta take it in. Divine intervention, LOL! ML |

Jon Stewart is a famous comedian who has his own show called "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central. Basically it is a fake news show making fun of current events. Jon is a great comedian and I think you would really like him in his element. The big deal about last night is that everyone the academy asked to host the big shin-dig turned it down (Billy Crystal, Chris Rock, Whoopie Goldberg, etc) and Jon made fun of the fact that he was hosting a show that he would never watch. He also made fun of himself being the eighth person asked after so many said no. Truly, I have never watched an Oscar show....ever. Since Jon was hosting, I had to take a peek. He did alright, but you could tell he was bit nervous and his style didn't fit well in Hollywood. The other catch for me was supporting Phillip Seymour Hoffman. He has had bit parts in quite a few movies and I always had a vibe about him that he should be playing major parts. VERY talented. Well, he won best actor for "Capote" and for that I am happy. The rest of the stuff didn't interest me at all. Hey Mikey...speaking of wardrobe malfunctions.....did you catch Jon's joke about how these poor ladies in Hollywood have so little money that they can only afford clothing that barely covers their breasts? LOL I thought that was a good one. | |

| Have to weigh on on the "best song" category. Of all the movies made this year .... without even having another nomination..... "It's hard out here for a pimp" was the best song they could find??? This up against 2 by John Williams?? And Manny was studying Brahms? What a dichotomy... You win, Manny.... talk about beauty and the beast...sad times. |

| I heard the "song" that actually won for "best song" this year. All I can say is that if this is the standard for great musical film writing, the Academy deserves every bit of criticism it gets. WHAT GARBAGE!! If there was nothing better than that then don't give an award, for cryin' out loud. Show some backbone and make a statement worth making. "Song" indeed. ML |

| Fortissimo User | Must be a channel that gets frozen at the border, Alex. Never seen it, never even heard of it before! I only saw the opening sequence of the Oscars this morning on a news program... looked like the best part of the whole show. I thought John's jokes were mostly pretty lame... at one point he almost begged the audience to applaud because he admitted there was no punch line! Best joke of the show.... "Bjork can't make it tonight... she was trying on her dress and Dick Cheney shot her". And what's with this Hip Hop junk? A truly forgettable Oscars show imo. |
