Our National Anthem With all that has been going on in my life lately I forgot to post about this. Derek I must give credit where it is due; I got this idea after seeing your post from the Pheonix Suns game that Rogerio, you, and your group did. This Saturday March 3, 2007 I will take a small representation of the community band that I play in to the Columbus Civic Center and we'll play the Star Spangled Banner before a Columbus Cottonmouths Hockey game. We started out using a public domain copy of the nation anthem for a brass quintet and ended up re-arranging the piece more to our likeing. So we'll be premiering the arrangement that our conductor Dr. Corradino and I co-arranged. We have a brass ensemble size of 14 6 trumpets, 2 French Horns, 2 Trombones, 2 Tubas, and 2 Baritones. I'm hoping to be able to capture some video of this so that I can post it out here. This is my crowning acheivment with the band thus far as it's chairman for publicity. I've been working very diligently to pull this together and I must say it's been tough. I couldn't get people interested in playing just because they don't like Hockey; I couldn't even imagine that!

Re: Our National Anthem John, Good for you in working to organize this outing. It sounds like you really took charge and made everything come together (I had it easy and just showed up to play). It would be great to have a video, but sometime that can be tricky (especially on ice). A nice shot of your group just before you go out to play would certainly be nice to see, though. Play well and have a great time!

Re: Our National Anthem As promised here's the video: [/quote] I'll with hold my own thoughts until I read yours. Enjoy; and Derek thanks for the idea. I'm the biggest guy in the video trumpets far right! Last edited by Eclipsehornplayer : 03-04-2007 at 07:45 AM.

Re: Our National Anthem Thanks Richard, It was pretty cool in that I had a hand in arranging the music we played. You really can't hear it but at the end we put 1/8 triplets and flaired out into a chord. It's covered up by the applause but I'll take it. First time I ever had 2,832 people all clapping for something I was a part of! I felt like the Trumpets over powered the ensemble a bit after reviewing the video; I was thinking that six trumpets was going to be a bit much. Either way it was great. The hockey game was great too! It went to overtime, then a shoot out, and prior to the shoot out there was a penalty shot awarded in the overtime round. Not often to see all of these elements in the same hockey game. Oh yeah; and by the way if I haven't mentioned it I love hockey!

Re: Our National Anthem Thanks Alex, Derek and Chuck... It was much fun; and the hockey was pretty good too! Chuck; you should know better then that. Karen Neuman has the Anthem locked up at the Joe and has for years. She's easier on the eyes then me anyway!
