Playing a private party on a cruise.

This is the greatest gig ever. I was off for Mardi Gras and took a gig playing a private party on a cruise ship. I brought my wife and daughter. This vacation is free and I only have to play one night.

Some how we even got bumped up to a suite on board. This is a sweet job. I would love to have this every holiday!

I am so relaxed for the first time in months. Hail MExico!!!!

I'm with Toots on this one. Too bad we don't have a jealous "smilie" here.

Dave,

Congrats on the great gig. Glad to see someone was treated well for Mardi Gras.

Re: Playing a private party on a cruise.

I'm back home to reality. This was a fun week. My total out of pocket for the entire week was for having my daughter swim with the dolphins in Cozumel and for a few soft drinks. The gig went very well and we will probably get invited to play again in the future by the same family.

After we played for the private party we stayed and played for about an hour as general people on the ship started to filter into the lounge. We were hoping that it might cause us to get picked up for another cruise. We were pretty good, and the ships band was pretty bad. Lots of people were asking us why we were not playing for the shows as they didn't realize that we were not on board as employees of the cruise line.

Strange thing -- we were told that we could not advertise the fact that we played on board, and if we did we would be told we could not play again in the future. This is supposedly a policy of the cruise line as they prefer that private parties book onboard musicians. It kind of ticked me off, but I guess if I was a musician on that ship I may feel differently.

Some people must be very wealthy, as in having more money than they know what to so with. They paid $345 for each of us and a spouse to come on this trip, plus they paid us for the gig! That came out to over $1000 a man for just a few hours work! It was for a 50th Anniversary so I learned later. I hope I have money to through a party like that when it's my 50th!!!
